About the Show

2020 Resident Artists' Summer Show

Starting May 29, 2020

“Our Resident Artist Summer Show has always been one of the crowd favorites and it certainly showcases just how much talent we are blessed to have here at River Oaks,” continues Dauzat. “While the original schedule was to have the exhibition opening on May 29, we will continue to go the virtual route for this show and make it available to the public via RiverOaksVirtualExhibitions.com as we did with our Dirty South Cup Call & Competition. The concept of a virtual exhibition has been exceptionally well received and we have had not only hundreds and hundreds of visitors a week from across the United States, but also International visitors from Canada and as far away as Hungary. The show will go live on the website on May 29 and I think it will be one of a kind as we will feature a common theme in the art.”

Laura Soulliere Gates

Gates' work has been juried into a number of regional and national competitions over the past 20 years. She has won numerous awards including an honorable mention in the September Competition of the Alexandria Museum of Art. She has exhibited in group and solo shows in the southeast. Her work is in private and institutional collections in the United States and several foreign countries. “I paint the landscape of Louisiana and other evocative places either in the studio or en plein air. The hidden vista around the corner, an intimate landscape discovered in my wanderings through the woods, or a massive landscape of enormous scale - these are places that resonate with me,” says Gates. “Each of my paintings seeks to capture the character-defining features of place, using color to create light and form. Each painting is an exploration. I paint with knives and pure pigment to capture the freshness and immediacy of the experience.”
