About the Show
DIRTY SOUTH CUP COMPETITION/ NATIONAL CALL
Starting 03 April 2020
Welcome to the 6th Annual Dirty South Cup Call & Competition, a purely virtual exhibition.
It all started with a simple premise: Give us your best mug, cup or yunomi!
River Oaks Square Arts Center was looking for a few good pieces to include in the 6th inception of the nationally acclaimed Dirty South Cup Call and Competition. We were looking for ceramic vessels that encompass exemplary creativity, experimentation and imagination, showcasing what can be accomplished through ceramics with the utilitarian cup form.
This feature is many-months-in-the-making and it’s an exceptional show – 80+ selections have created a breathtaking lineup of artists, talent, and incredible cups this year! While we are heartbroken we can’t feature it in its physical form at the Arts Center, we are thankful this call is poised for an online exhibition. We will let the opportunity propel us into our first virtual showing ever! Our hopes are high that cup lovers from Louisiana and throughout the world virtually tour this showing of ceramics excellence. Over 165 entries from all across the U.S. were received for this National Artists Call.
It is our hope that this feature brings light and enjoyment to home-bound audiences and ceramic enthusiasts everywhere. Through these complex times, art connects us all.
Special thanks to our 2020 Dirty South Guest Juror, Deb Schwartzkopf – a Seattle based studio potter, instructor, author of Creative Pottery and owner of Rat City Studios (http://ratcitystudios.com). Visit her online workshops!
